Since 1829, the Oxford Cambridge Boat Race has been at the core of UK sport. This year’s Boat Race will see the 75th Women’s and 166th Men’s Race. The 2021 race can be argued by many to be revolutionary, as for the first time in its history the Men’s race will be umpired by a Woman: Olympian Sarah Winckless MBE. The athletes have been training for this long-awaited event since September 2020. So, despite Cambridge being the Men’s and Women’s reigning champions, the title is anyone’s to race for…
With all the new change this year has brought about, it was only right to switch up the location of this historic event. The beautiful, ancient city of Ely is a welcomed break from the hectic capital during these uncertain times. The Boat Race will now be taking place on the Great River Ouse, situated on the outskirts of this peaceful City.
As we all know, the COVID pandemic has had a catastrophic effect on UK sports. As a result, this year will be a closed event with no spectators allowed. However, these safety measures have been put into place to ensure that this world-famous amateur sporting event can still go ahead. After all, the row must go on!
You will not miss a second of the action, as the Boat Race will be broadcasted live on BBC one from 15:00- 17:30 on Sunday 4th April (Get your alarms set!).
